Betting the Farm at Santa Anita Park

One of the most renowned horse racing tracks in the United States is right in our own backyard in Arcadia, CA. Have you been to Santa Anita Park?

With the suddenly-gorgeous weather, yesterday seemed like the perfect opportunity to head to Santa Anita. I’ve never been much of a gambler myself. But, there is something about the high class feeling of being at the track. Sure, you can head over in T-shirt and jeans, sit in the stands, and eat a hot dog as you bet away your hard-earned residuals. But, you haven’t really experienced the spectacle of Santa Anita until you class it up at the FrontRunner, with its floor-to-ceiling glass wall view of the San Gabriel Mountains. Sit at the bar with your Bloody Mary and crabcakes and pick your winner. Wil Wheaton will be glad to know that I used a lot of science to pick mine. I threw down a whopping $5 on a horse named Wheaton Hall to win the 4th race. He did.

If you want to check out Santa Anita on the cheap, this Saturday is your scene. It’s Dollar Day – where you pay just $1 for general admission, racing program, beer, hot dogs, soft drinks, and popcorn. Of course, you’ll have to sit outside with the commoners.

Take the 210 East from Pasadena.
