Up at the crack of dawn and on the road early yesterday to catch the largest single manufacturer show here in So Cal. The show was a again dominated by Mustangs, so I spent my time in the rows and rows of other than ‘stangs and found several gems. Continue reading 2017 Fabulous Fords Forever Car Show is a wrap
It was quite the car show yesterday. Very heavy with the customs and one that stood out so far above the others I called it my personal favorite and named it “best of show” The work this young man out into an old Mercury chopping, channeling, lowering and flaming was simply amazing.
More pics in my flickr album from the show.
The cars start lining up at 8AM and by 10AM South Myrtle Avenue in Monrovia from Palm to Olive is a massive sea of cars. MASSIVE. As in hundreds of classic cars in every state of restoration, customization or just in need of some TLC and stock original. Its limited to pre-malaise era cars so pretty much anything prior to 1980 is there.
With Myrtle Avenue blocked I’d suggest getting off at Myrtle Ave and head north from the 210. At that point turn right at Huntington Drive and then left at Ivy and park in a free city parking lot off Ivy. Or…turn left then right up Primrose and park in one of the free lots off that street.
Arrive early and do dress for heat. Crowds peak around the lunch hour and if its too hard to see the cars, well pop into Jakes Roadhouse or one of the many other restaurants in Old Town Monrovia, grab a bite and wait for the crowds to die down.
I rarely put up a notice of an event that costs money to attend or this far in advance. But this show is big, beyond the normal car show we see here in L.A. Its the Palos Verdes Concours d’Elegance coming on September 14 at the Trump Mational Golf Course in Palos Verdes. This isn’t a cheap event, but has unique, rare and expensive automobiles. Think Cord, Auburn, Dusenberg…not Galaxy, Impala or other plebeian rides.
Among the cars there will be a full size Hot Wheels Darth Vader car that was made to look like the toy car. It was unveiled at Comic con this summer and will be at this show as well.
Also at the show there will be the worlds fastest motorcycle. The Gyronaut X-1that set a world record in 1966 at Bonneville Salt Flats with 245.667 MPH.

One of my pleasures of living in the relatively dry SoCal climate is our thriving classic car culture. Part of that culture will be on display this Saturday, as downtown Culver City hosts its “Crusing Back to the 50s“ car show right out on Culver and Washington Blvds. from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. I was there four years ago, and it was loads of fun.
In addition to a selection of over 400 classic cars, expect to see some of the world’s most famous tv show custom cars and their creator, George Barris (Batmobile, Munster Koach, etc.). There will be food, music, and car-related merchandise on hand as well. Oh, and did I mention that admission to the show is free?
