Win Tix to Skinny Puppy Tomorrow!

skinnypuppyYes, I know–it’s last-minute. But what former or current goth/industrial or goth/industrial-curious kid would pass up this chance to see the BRUTAL awesome grandfathers of the industrial genre?

I also have to put in a good word for opener Baseck, who I first saw play in the sagging second story of a punk squat over a home-decor hop in K-town in like 2002 or something. The entire dubiously-structurally-secure room was whirling with kids dancing to his amazing electronic grind-post-grime-core-something-mashes. Two filthy thumbs up.

To win, tell me the silliest hyphenated musical genre you’ve ever heard. But you can’t steal “amazing electronic grind-post-grime-core-something-mashes,” because that’s mine. Show info is here.

  1. Wow, I saw Skinny Puppy on their first tour of America, say 1985. Possibly one of the greatest shows I ever witnessed. When a dude ran on stage and smashed a bottle on Ogres head, splattering blood all over everything we were like…. WTF just happened????? We figured out it was staged a few minutes later.

ANYWAYS, first day God created Throbbing Gristle, on the 6th day he created Skinny Puppy. Throbbing Gristle invented industrial, Skinny Puppy invented Electrogrind-moregore-horrorcore-w/ a beat you can dance to;-)

  2. Not exactly a long multi-hyphenated genre but Hip hop was originally called disco-rap according to Wiki: “Creation of the term hip hop is often credited to Keith Cowboy, a rapper with Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five.[3] Though Lovebug Starski, Keith Cowboy, and DJ Hollywood used the term when the music was still known as disco rap.”

  3. They were big in Boston in the mid to late 80’s when I was living there. I preferred Scruffy the Cat, who must have picked their name out of the same hat.
