Win Tix to Datarock Tomorrow Night at the El Rey!

I’ve always liked this electro-pop duo with their nerd flourishes and 80s fetishes. Playful, funny, can’t-get-it-out-of-your-head tracks and matching tracksuits make this gig a don’t-miss if you wanna dance your a** off on a humpday. And who doesn’t want to do that?!

To win tix, tell me your favorite nerdy 80s item, be it your prized hand-built x-wing fighter model, the original Speak-n-Spell, or your Rubik’s cube still in its original box. Not a geek? Fake it, Mr/Ms. “I’m Reading Blogs Right When I Get To The Office But I’m Still Not A Nerd.”

  1. I was a young’un in the 80’s, so my 80’s memory items are all toys. I think my favorite was my Tron bike toy that you could rev up with that old mechanical system where you would push it forward against the ground over and over to get it going and then let it go. And I don’t give a crap what anyone says I’m psyched for the new Tron movie.

  2. My favorite thing from that decade is the memory of me first hearing Funkytown on my little portable radio in May of 1980. That opening cowbell riff sounded fresher than anything else coming through my little speaker.

  3. my ghostbusters ecto pack! i was the coolest girl in the track housing complex. that toy taught me how to kick ass ad take names at the tender age of 8.

  4. HAHAHahaha! I think you’ve just called out about half of the MetBlogs audience.

  5. Hands down, I loved my AT-ST model. I didn’t like the drab colors of the Hoth planet, so I painted mine sky blue and hot pink. It’s still in a place of prominence, next to my complete Care Bear (and Cousins) stuffed animal collection in my parent’s home.

  6. Penny Loafers, Farrah Fawcett Poster, Garbage pale kids stickers. what else do you need on Friday night! remember getting the penny so shinny when ever i’d wear those loafers. Farrah Fawcett poster was a must. such a babe. The garbage pale kids where so disgusting and awesome, trading was the best but i never stuck them on anything. i think they made a come back. totally rocking the loafers to the show.

  7. my fav item i still have from the 80s is this metal disc with a nipple at the bottom that you spin to make rainbows, no idea what it is called but i have had it for 20 years
