Los Angeles isn’t really the sort of place that has stuffed jackalope in windows, redneck bumperstickers about guns, or behind-the-register signs reading “”In God we trust the rest pay cash.” It’s nice to see a bit of the sort of deadpan humor around town that was old when the hills were young.
I’ve actually never seen these before–or if I have, I didn’t notice it. Love it!
I hate to contradict you but LA is so about bumperstickers and wearing your politics on your ass, slogans may differ a little than a redneck deep in the ozarks but they still do it.
Love those signs. It ranks right there with the “go away” door mats at home crepot.
Reminds me of the “Never Open Store” off of Melrose.
Oh yeah, LA isn’t lacking in bumper stickers, T-shirt messages, and joking signs. It’s just unusual to see ones that are quite so dog-and-pony as the ones I snapped pix of. For one thing, those above really aren’t about “wearing your politics” the way most LA joke signs would be… vacuous, affected “politics” usually in LA, sure, but not wholesome like the above guffaw.
It’s Carol Burnett versus Lenny Bruce. Los Angeles plays blue. Maybe I’ll have to find some contrasting illustrations.
