You may not know it, but that’s our very own Frazgo – too shy to toot his own horn, but me? I’m all about shameless promotion, so here’s the dirt on the 45th Annual
MOFO MAFA “Celebrate the Arts” festival, hosted by the Monrovia Association of Fine Arts.
This year’s event is October 11 & 12 in the Monrovia Community Center, 10AM to 6PM daily, and features the work of 65 artists representing various media, with a focus on oil, acrylic and water color painting. Additionally there will be limited numbers of photographers, digital artists and jewelry artists.
Besides honoring Fraz, this year’s Celebrate the Arts is having a casual dress opening night reception in the Community Center from 7-9PM. A tax deductible donation of $25 per person gets you music, hors d’oeuvres and hosted wine bar (don’t forget to tip the volunteer bartenders).

Part of the evening’s reception will include some awards for community members. Kathie Reece, owner of the Historic Aztec Hotel will be receiving the “Renaissance Award” for her tireless work in promoting art in the community and in the hotel. The “Distinguished Artist” award is being presented to James Farmer for his 38 years of teaching art at Monrovia High School and inspiring new artists in the area.
Celebrate the Arts is a kid friendly event following MAFA’s efforts to fund art education in the schools. There will be children’s art from the After School Program as well as opportunities for them to create their own art.
Celebrate the Arts will be taking place in Monrovia’s Old Town district. There is ample parking in and around the event. There are many different restaurant options in the area, fraz and I recommend Café Opera if you are interested in a nice, non-fast food lunch.
Or you can check out the Old Town Merchants.
