Win Free Tickets to El-P with Busdriver & Dizzee Rascal

el-p-big.jpgPhilip K. Dick fanboy and dropper of scifi El-P pulls into the El Rey tomorrow night, the 22nd, with a veritable cornucopia of alt-hip-hoppers: DJ Mr. Dibbs & The Mighty Quinn, Dizzee Rascal with DJ Aaron LaCrate, and my personal fave, Busdriver. Goldenvoice gave us a few pairs of tickets to give out, so if you’d rather save your money for obscure Company Flow vinyl, leave a note in the comments telling me your favorite line from an El-P, Dizzee Rascal or Busdriver track, and why you like it: allitaration? Assonance? Literary references? Social commentary? Puns? Just think it’s cool? Whatever reason, we want your favorite line. We’ll then randomly pick a few winners. Woo!

  1. COMMENTERS: PLEASE REMEMBER TO LEAVE AN EMAIL AT WHICH YOU CAN BE CONTACTED (AND AT WHICH YOU WILL BE CHECKING EMAIL REGULARLY); OTHERWISE, WE CAN’T GET YOU YOUR TICKETS. THANKS.

  2. El-P:
I get my swerve on like a narcoleptic race car driver on the Autobahn in monsoon season.
Lord of the fly shit design of Tesla and Einstien reason.

  3. Dance with the land sharks clutchin’ heat, ugly
    monks hung halo teach
Hung by the math where the cable reach
A hundred and sixty-six channels lit
    The train that animal shit
    Where the mind’s eye redefines
Where’s God? Buy car, Kick tires

The cadence is sick, it sounds amazing over his dirty, dense beats.

  4. Blithering sideway twang, the youth and brain management troupe
    The man is like BOOOP
You can’t touch the Krush Groove
I live by the lunch table
    Touched fables
    Ducked labels
Lookout for the one he’d abide with the terrible stables
    Signed to Rawkus
I’d rather be mouth fucked by Nazis unconscious

The beats on this track are so rough, and his rhyming goes so well them. Not to mention the last 2 lines about Rawkus, which are my favorite lines of any El-P track, post Company Flow…

  5. That’s why I always get respect from true soldiers
While half of the critics claim it every year: “Hip hop’s over.”
FUCK YOU, hip hop just started
It’s funny how the most nostalgic cats are the ones who were never part of it
But true veterans’ll give dap to those who started it
Then humbly move the fuck on and come with that new retarded shit

El-P on an Aesop Rock song. It’s so true. The one’s hating on hip hop generally don’t know shit. And the dopest emcees always seem to progress the artform.

  6. Busdriver:

“I’ve got a point system that determines my happiness
It’s unit of measurement is you interest in my crappy shit
“Cause I’m not dope, I’m not fresh
My songs are over shot and under sung
What a dumb verse that is
    I’m definitely not number one”

I like this verse because just about any creative person has felt this way.

    El-P:

“I found love on a prison ship”

I just think it is an evocative image.

  7. “there’s a place for me and a place for you under the sun showers” – busdriver
