Video Commenting is here!

Hey Everyone! Just wanted to take a second to point out a super cool new feature we’ve just rolled out on the site. Video comments! Assuming you have a webcam of some sort, you can now add video comments here (as well as any other Metblogs site) in a click or two. If you look below where you’d usually go to post a comment you’ll see an “add a video comment” link, click that and it’ll walk you through a few initial set up steps to get you rolling. Thanks a ton to our friends at Seesmic who are helping make this possible. {seesmic_video:{“url_thumbnail”:{“value”:””}”title”:{“value”:” “}”videoUri”:{“value”:””}}}

  1. I’m curious if the lack of video respondability was a problem before? I have a personal preference for written responses… I never watch a reply video at YouTube, for example (though reading YouTube comments at all is the first step down the path to madness). Videos take way, way longer to consume than a quick comment, and they can’t be easily skimmed.

    This is not for me. I’m curious who it is for.

  2. Hey, also, while the site is getting updated, it would be great if you could link people’s names to their own websites instead of to the Metroblogs author page (which doesn’t provide much useful information about non-authors). You can also stop displaying both usernames AND display names… one will suffice. I don’t need to be known as both RumorsDaily AND DoorFrame.

  4. Hey RumorsDaily, luckily we aren’t replacing the blog with 100% video content so nothing is being lost, only added. No requirement to use it if you don’t want to. Your second comment is full of things already on our todo list so stay tuned. As for who it’s for, well, check out the 3rd comment. ;)

  5. This is an interestng change. Not for me, but then again I am more comfortable behind the camera instead of in front of it.

  9. Very weird…this makes me laugh…very, very strange. How many people are going to watch all the videos? Damn…video? Can we have a reply to feature too? Please? LOL…crap, now I’m gonna have to find my mic so I can get my webcam going. Or and I can do like a “silent” webcam. Hmmmm….

  10. Look at my hair! {seesmic_video:{“url_thumbnail”:{“value”:””}”title”:{“value”:”Look at my hair! “}”videoUri”:{“value”:””}}}

  11. LOL @ RD…freaky, but you look like a friend’s transitioning girlfriend. When she started transitioning, she got a wig with that same cut and has taken to wearing berets. We’re all wondering if she’ll drop the berets once summer starts.

  12. I like it. Much more personal even though its not as easy to scan quickly. I think the video commenting idea opens the door for more conversation rather than quick insults/banter from anonymous people.

  13. I like the idea of video comments. Now to find me a computer camera and a big bottle of extra strength acne remover.
