Archiving Angeles (AA): The Academy

Mary Pickford was there. So were Douglas Fairbanks, Louis B. Mayer, and Jack L. Warner.

It was the first organizational meeting of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in the Crystal Ballroom of the Biltmore Hotel.

The year was 1927.

  1. I love walking inside the Biltmore Hotel and seeing all the photographs of Hollywood past. It makes me realize just how glamorous this city can be, not denigrated by paparazzi and celebutards.

  2. The best thing about the Biltmore is the Gallery Bar. I go there weekly. I’m always surprised it’s not more popular, but also happy that it’s not more popular.

The second best thing is the indoor art deco pool, it’s beautiful.
