L.A. Guns Make Music Called Death

According to the Brady Campaign, California is ranked #1 in the U.S. when it comes to gun control laws. But, is it enough?

With campus shootings at Virginia Tech and NIU, and recent incidents closer to home like the one took the life of LAPD SWAT officer Randall Simmons, it’s a question that continues to grow louder.

Just this morning, one of the top stories on CNN was about students in Utah schools who are now carrying firearms to protect themselves. Imagine a future where you are packing your little girl’s lunchbox and 9mm to send her off to school. At least if she goes to school in California, you can rest assured of that #1 ranking.

Spokesmen for the 463 gangs in Los Angeles could not be reached for comment.

UPDATE (2:55): LAPD officers fired upon this afternoon by AK-47. Good times.

  1. Duuuuuuuuuuuude…the line “Spokesmen for the 463 gangs in Los Angeles could not be reached for comment.” just cracked me up!

  2. Liberal hatred of guns is so ridiculous. The cat is out of the bag in this country, and has been for a very long time. We could ban all gun purchase and ownership from today on and the only thing that would change is only criminals would be armed. There are already more guns than people in the US. What we need are sensible gun laws that favor law abiding citizens, not more restrictions.

As we all know, more laws are what keep criminals from committing crimes. Case in point – AK-47s have not been legal for sale in California since 1990.

Lawful gun owners, and concealed weapons permit holders (in states where non-celebrities can get one) are among the most law abiding people you will ever meet. For whatever reason – fear, lack of knowledge, head-in-the-sand mentality, liberals love to demonize gun owners.

A liberal is only a conservative that has not yet been a victim of a crime. Have you ever tried to call 911 in the City of LA?

  3. Lawful gun owners, and concealed weapons permit holders… are among the most law abiding people you will ever meet

If I’m not mistaken, the the people committing these recent acts of violence have also been gun owners.

A liberal is only a conservative that has not yet been a victim of a crime

I honestly can’t think of one person I know that has not been a victim of a crime, regardless of their political affiliation.

  4. I agree with Poedanglo, gun control is obviously a joke. It clearly does not work. Just like all prohibition laws, they simply create a dangerous unregulated underground market and punish responsible citizens. Plus it’s unconstitutional.

Oh yah, and if you are really worried about your child’s life, keep them away from cars, not guns. In 2001 a little over 29,000 people died from gun shots (over half of the fatalities were suicides). In 2004, nearly 43,000 people died in car accidents.

Did you know gun ownership is constitutional but federally funded highways are unconstitutional?

  5. Gun control is one of 3 sure fire (no pun intended) ways to start a raging debate.

Have at it. I got my NRA life membership when I was 5. Never owned a gun and don’t have the need as I an neither into target shooting nor hunting as recreation. I don’t need one but I reserve the right to get one should I decide I have the need.

  6. There are liberals who own guns. There are also conservatives who support gun control (like Jim Brady). It’s not that cut-and-dried, though.

The people who support gun control are mostly urban or suburban, middle class, families. They tend to be Democrats. People who oppose it are mostly men, whites, and Republicans.

Now, here’s what I don’t get. One faction of the anti-control fanatics always talk about how they need their guns to stop the “tyranny of the federal government.” Why haven’t there been any attempts on Bush and Cheney?

  7. Sean when the sale of the automatic weapons was banned there were plenty left on the streets. Anyone who thinks making gun ownership illegal only means the safe and sane will turn theirs in. The bad guys will keep theres and use them as they see fit.

Yesterdays shooting is proof the bad guys kept theirs. 3 weeks ago here in my area automatic weapons were reportedly used to shoot down 2 local teenage girls. Gang members were reportedly the shooters in that incident. The point is simple banning guns will only mean the bangers and other bad guys will still have theirs.

  8. What we need to do is secure the borders. Round up all the guns that came here illegally and send them back to where they came from. People need to follow the rule of law in this country.

  9. It was not automatic weapons that were banned by the law. They were “assault weapons” – semi-automatic firearms (one shot per trigger pull) that had a collection of attributes that made legislators nerveous.
