Haste the Day, you Scary Kids!

Win tickets to see Haste the Day and Scary Kids Scaring Kids at the El Rey, February 7th.

Back just a few decades ago, the kids would go ape shit for multi-band lineups for groups such as the Coasters, Buddy Holly, Bill Haley and the Comets, and the Wonders. Catholic school girls would toss their starched knickers up to Jerry Lee’s feet. The boys would admire Elvis’ kung-fu pelvis thrusts, and then run home to cut their hair with a bowl and scissors to emulate the mop tops. But it all boiled down to being about the music and sweet melodies.

As the black sheep of the Sheen family, Emilio, would say, “That was then, this is now.”

The quadruple bill playing Thursday at the El Rey features the “post-hardcore” bands Scary Kids Scaring Kids and Drop Dead Gorgeous, and “Christian metalcore” bands Haste the Day and Gwen Stacy. But this is 2008, and while the bands on stage will be screaming at the top of their lungs, and hammering away at their axes at Guitar Hero, expert level encore pace, the kids in the audience will behave themselves like kids should behave. In fact, they’ll likely do their homework before making it to the 6:30pm show, and will head home long before curfew.

Anyway, I’ve got a few pairs tickets that I’d be willing to hand out to five commenters who can promise me they’ll also do their chores without being asked. I’ll pick five winners at random Wednesday morning just before the school bell rings.
