Detroit, New York, Philly, Chicago All Suck Worse

Picture%206.jpgWhen it comes to the 150 most miserable cities in America, we’re number 7. This, coming from the super-fantastic money magazine Forbes. They came up with our ranking with a highly scientific and very sexy formula, which incorporates the Misery Index and the Misery Score.

The Misery Index adds the unemployment rate to the inflation rate.

The Misery Score is the sum of corporate, personal, employer and sales taxes in different countries.

Forbes went a step further to invent The Misery Measure. They added four more factors that can make people miserable: commute times, weather, crime and toxic waste.

L.A.’s Misery Measure? Anyone? Anyone?

632

In sunny L.A., the weather is almost perfect. Everything else, not so perfect. If you are not stuck in traffic or forking over your earnings to put a dent in the state’s massive budget deficit, chances are, you are choking on the city’s polluted air.

Thank you, Forbes, for yet another pointless city ranking.

  1. If we all get together and try really, really hard I’m sure we can make it to #1 next year.

Drive more, recycle less thats what I say!

  2. Wooo-Hooo! I hope that keeps people from moving here. I’m doing my part! Hell, last year I talked 5 people into moving from LA to Chicago. Yay!

  3. LOL Fabooj you crack me up. All my factors its still #1 in my book. And with the totally LA Centric mode, we all know the rest of the world exists so we have a nice place to vacation every now and then.

  4. They really do their homework these Forbes guys. In their recent Most Wired Cities article they ranked Orlando in the top 5. This was a few months after the city canned their free downtown wifi (I guess they think this “internet thing” won’t last) and this line from the code of our city gov website says it all:

    Good work Forbes!

  5. Michael#1, don’t go trying to steal Detroit’s glory. I expect Forbes thought Detroit should be grateful for any mention in their publication.

  6. A mere 632?
Well, I’m doing my best to make it as miserable as possible, but unless you all step up to the plate and muck in as much as you can, we’re never gonna make it to #1.
Come on guys! Together, we can make it happen!
