Los Angeles Resident Missing after ASR in San Diego

Dane WilliamsSan Diego police are searching for Los Angeles resident Dane Williams who went missing after this year’s Action Sports Retailers trade show. 23-year-old Williams, who works for Hurley, was last seen around 2 a.m. Saturday, leaving the Hard Rock Cafe outside of the Marriott Gaslamp in San Diego.

Though the police say foul play is not suspected, friends and family have expressed concern, noting that it’s out of character for Williams to skip work without notice. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the San Diego police department at (619) 531-2000.

UPDATE: As noted in the comments, ABC 7 is now reporting that Williams has been found dead in an alley.

  1. Actually, they changed the headline. When it first went up, it was “Police find body of missing Huntington Beach man” or something like that. Now it’s “Police find body in San Diego alley.”

  2. The Gaslamp Quarter in San Diego is a very dangerous place.

Odd, since it is a tourist destination filled with visitors to PetCo Park for a Padres game or convention-goers or just tourists. When I was there I noted that the atmosphere was scary – not because people were drunk (which they were), but because there were clearly gangs of young men who clearly were waiting for their next victim.

In fact, you may recall that LA Times reporter Geoff Boucher was attacked when he was down covering the Comic-Con geek fest.

What’s wierd is that the city of San Deigo promotes the Gaslamp Quarter as a visitor’s destination, but apparently does nothing to make it safer despite the repeated crimes and attacks. And now this – so unneccessary…
