Free on Craiglist L.A. (FOCLA): Unique Antique Toilet Bowls

Every so often I browse through the stuff people are giving away for free on Craigslist L.A.’s a good one which has generated a whole host of questions in my mind:

Amazing for the person who can use something like this.

Original toilet bowls from 1930 and 1932 (see photo).

One is lilac, the other tan. Both are 15″ high, 14″ wide, 18″ deep.

First response gets them both.

How does one come upon not one, but two of these (outside of on Craiglist)? especially like the date stamping on those: April 22, 1932 and October 30, 1930.

Do they still date stamp toilets these days?

I want to know who wants something like this and what they can be used for???

  1. Believe it or not, there is a demand for used fixtures. Too many of these bastard “flip a house” people rip out perfectly good ceramics and other pieces to make a home more modern, ruining its historical integrity.
Yep, even with toilet, some people like to go antique.

  2. I’m pretty sure the “green” folks (and by now you all know how I feel about them) have made it ILLEGAL to have anything but ugly, new low-flow toilets in any house sold, so if you did put these in you’d have to be ready to take them out again if you wanted to sell the house.

  3. Wonderful find. Markland you made laugh, nice pun “go antique”! And Ruth I put in those low flow toilets and they are pretty nice and do a better job at flushing. The lack of water in the bowl raises other issues, specifically skid marks if you don’t sit just right.
