As in, “The Wright Stuff Film Festival”. As in, Edgar Wright, director of the already classic Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz.
The New Beverly Cinema remains undaunted by the recent death of longtime owner Sherman Torgan, and continues its excellent reputation for offering Los Angeles moviegoers with above-average programming by playing host to a festival of oddities and lost favorites, all handpicked by the eponymous Mr. Wright.
The fest runs from December 2nd to December 17th, and will be chock full of special guests and special introductions by Edgar himself. I’ll have some more info for you next week, including interviews with the folks at the New Beverly… In the meantime, check the festival’s lineup after the jump (thanks again, CHUD.com).

December 7th & 8th – THE LAST BOY SCOUT & KISS KISS, BANG BANG
December 9 & 11th – AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON & TREMORS

December 16th & 17th – RAISING ARIZONA & EVIL DEAD 2
Very cool. Really the most bizarre selection of double features I’ve perhaps ever seen. (I myself always think of Evil Dead 2 when I see a mention of Raising Arizona. Yeah.)
Joel Coen was an assistant editor on Evil Dead. Raising Arizona is full of cinematic references to Evil Dead. Look at the chase scene at 4:14 on this video.

Edgar Wright is just a blast to hear talk and handle a Q&A even with the dumbest of audiences.
I’m hoping they sell a series pass to this thing. Then again, part of the fun of the New Bev is waiting in line with the die hard movie fans.
