Yep – Aftershock

Picture%2012.pngThis one a 3.5, again from the same vicinity as last week’s shaker:

A minor earthquake occurred at 12:23:23 PM (PDT) on Thursday, August 16, 2007.
The magnitude 3.5 event occurred 7 km (4 miles) N of Chatsworth, CA.
The hypocentral depth is 5 km ( 3 miles).

From the USGS.

I was sitting working on the laptop when it hit – my girlfriend was standing next to me. I felt it, she didn’t… although she was talking on the phone at the time.

Two in a week? Yep… definitely time to heed the LAFD’s advice to be prepared.

(disclaimer: I’m just guessing this was an aftershock – I’m a blogger, not a scientist)

  1. West Side quake! Everyone from the west side keeps hitting me up and telling me about this but in Hollywood we didn’t feel a thing. Weak.

  2. Not a thing here in outer monrovia. Odd after a period of silence the Northridge aftershock patter resumes. If recollection serves they warned that the sequence could last 15-20 years.

  3. There seems to be lots of activity on the rim of fire, with yesterdays massive 8.0 in Lima being the latest. Time to stock up on water and beer!

  4. I’m in Hollywood, I felt it…barely. I was between snooze button slaps in bed.

I guessed it for a two point something; guess I’m inured to all it after Northridge.

  5. Sitting here in my office in NoHo we felt it. Nothing powerful, just a sudden sway as the building started rolling back and forth.

Made me vaguely queasy is all.

  6. Dang. I slept through the one a week ago, and then I didn’t even notice this one today.

  7. Of course, I lived in one of the Mercalli IX zones during the Northridge quake, so it’s not like I really miss the little buggers…
