Meltdown, the grilled cheese restaurant in Culver City whose regrettably limited hours of operation (8am-3pm) have been the cause of much consternation among my fromage-fiending friends, has added breakfast to its menu, from 8am to 11am. While this doesn’t exactly improve the situation–why oh why couldn’t they be open later?–it sure does make for a tasty way to start the day. Here, witness the proverbial heart attack on a plate: their three-cheese scramble with cheddar, muenster, and fontina plus smoked ham on sourdough. My friend and agreeable hand model Keith opted for the ham; I would have gone for the applewood-smoked bacon…but each to their own poison. Me, I got the goat cheese-with-egg-whites scramble, and it was damn fine as well. While it’s not the best grilled cheese I’ve experienced, it is indeed quite good–and I know my grilled cheese. Definitely worth a stop if you’re in the neighborhood and hankerin’ for some crispy, gooey cheezy goodness.
On the way home, I spotted a fantastic only-in-LA moment: spinning rims on a taxi van. Way to go, Taxi Dude.
Talk about cheesy…
