  1. Man, this is really sad news.

Though I found Hal’s commentaries increasingly out of touch and a little silly in the last few years, I feel like I lost a beloved relative today.

Hal Fishman was a huge part of my childhood, and I feel like a part of that is gone. I hope he passed quietly and peacefully, surrounded by people who loved him.

  2. He was the last local anchor I had any respect for. After KTLA sold out to popularity and went entertainews, I stopped watching local news.

This morning KPCC had a pretty good piece about Hal and how he was behind the scenes (hint: It wasn’t pretty). Unfortunately, I can’t find any reference to it on their web site.

That’s actually what I was listening to when I posted this. It was certainly interesting to hear.

  4. Drewb, they basically said he was a royal pain in the ass. Apparently he hated having to share airtime with anybody, especially co-anchors, and even limited the length of other reporters pieces because people were tuning in to see Hal, and not some lowly reporter.

That said, they all praised him as a newsman.
