Google Streetview…in LA now!

Google maps street view has finally come to LA! Now you can stalk your ex from home!

Okay, you can’t really stalk them, more like just pretend like you’re standing outside of their house, BUT STILL! It’s still coming online and there are still plenty of unviewable streets, so if you live on one of those streets, watch out. Google Maps is coming! I’m so excited! I can’t even express how much I love maps.

Of course, this also means that people will be swarming all over our fine city to find girls’ underpants (of course, they went back and removed it) and any other sort of wacky things they can. Have you found anything questionable yet? Put it in the comments!

  1. So according to the King Kong photo, The photos of the Hollywood area were taken in December of 2005.

-C’mon Google, where’s the real-time data my id demands!?

  2. Sigh…and a good thing is getting bad press already. Saw on the news tonight a privacy and civil rights attorney has his panties up in a knot over the pictures possibly being misconstrued or being outright invasions of privacy.

Google responded that they value our privacy and the pictures aren’t real time and since done on public property no foul. Of course the resolution is so bad when you get up close you’d never be able to pic me out of the line up nor anyone else for that matter.

  3. Interestingly, the resolution on the early pics posted for San Francisco was much, much better.

I suspect they they’ve de-rezzed the newer stuff a bit to try to mollify the ‘privacy’ whiners, but it really reduces the utility of the street view.

In the SF pics, you could “drive” down a street and clearly read all the storefront signage. Here in LA, only the larger corporate logos are recognizable.

I’m really disappointed in the lower-quality images.

(And here’s a tip for ‘privacy’ fanatics: anything that can be seen from a van driving down a public street isn’t private, and if you assumed otherwise, you’re delusional.)

    Hallelujah.
