L.A. Indoor Beer Olympics this Friday.

http://blogging.la/archives/images/2007/08/neilhamburger-thumb.jpgInstead of sobbing about losing the U.S. city host bid for the 2016 Olympics to Chicago, Angelenos are [ahem] chugging ahead by holding their very own Indoor Beer Olympics on Friday.

$10* and a convincing i.d. proving you’re over 21 will get you in to participate in one of two competitions:

The Beer Chug Championships

or
The Drunken Spelling Bee

Just like the real Olympics, but better: To protect their anonymity (the shame from a potential loss may be too much) participants are encouraged to dress up and arrive as character of their creation. And the whole binger competition is being hosted by Neil Hamburger.  Yeah: Neil Hamburger. (pictured)

If you plan on competing, take the bus or be sure to bring a designated driver (seriously, I think its a rule).

Friday, August 10th, 9pm
The MET Theatre
1089 N. Oxford
Los Angeles, 90029 (map)

*Entry fee: $10 in advance, $12 at the door (space permitting).
Spectators: $5 in advance, or $7 at the door.
