Whimsic Alley, LA’s Premier Place for Potterbilia

Whether you are a fire-breathing Potterphile, or a more casual follower of Harry, you will certainly enjoy stopping by Whimsic Alley, a recent addition to Santa Monica’s shops on Wilshire.

Even as I approached the small store-front, I twittered in anticipation, knowing full well I would walk out with a long receipt and a large bag.

The store was quite full, mostly adults, all of whom were stocking up on Potter pieces in preparation for Friday’s book release. The store carried items you’d expect, like books (duh), posters, figurines and plush toys. The real surprises were the shelves stocked with the odd and rare: do you need a child-size Hedwig costume? Do you need the perfect knick-knack to make your parlor look more like Dumbledore’s library? All out of the now-discontinued Drooble’s Best Blowing Gum? Looking for full-length house robes? Perhaps your very own wand? Then look no further!

The entire store was set up to transport you to Diagon Alley. As you entered the store, the right hand side mimicked Madam Malkin’s Robes for All Occassions, and the left hand side was reminiscient of Ollivander’s wand shop. The rest of the store is full of categorized nooks and you’ll surely find what you’re looking for. Merchandise is flying off the shelves, but they are very well-stocked. Out of sorting hats, though. :(

  1. Ha, ha, Republicans for Voldemort. The wands on the website are almost as silly as the Star Wars fans with their little light sticks. Almost.
