Tiny Champions!

I’ve always had a soft spot in my heart for these tiny cars (“Klienwagen” “Kleinwagen” auf Deutsch), and right now the Petersen Automotive Museum is having a show of them.

Never have so many been packed into a space so small, and seldom will you get as much bang for your buck.

Head over to the Pete – there are some real strange ones in this show.

  1. I saw lots of Smart cars when I was in Vancouver last year. I wonder if perhaps the majority in this city is too image-conscious to drive such a thing. I doubt most of my friends would drive one. I would probably rather get a motorcycle myself, although I need a car with lots of cargo room for gigging.

    BTW, it’s “Kleinwagen”.

  2. Thanks for the correction – I can’t believe I did that.

And as for Smart cars here – I’ve been trying to get one for YEARS. Some guy in San Diego was trying to grey-market them in for a while but the prices were obscene.

Far from nobody wanting them, I think safety issues are keeping them off the road. Looking at one in person it’s easy to fall in love – until you picture the inevitable tiny woman in her SUV, on the phone, plowing into you going 70.

They’d need a Shop Vac to find you after that….
