When I first saw these (some months ago) I thought they were left behind from a garage sale or something, but lo these many moons later, here they still be.
Dang it, they’re in there permanently –
Is this a test-marketing deal for the MTA, trying to accommodate our Leprechaun American Angelenos?
(Not saying where these are. if you know you know, and I don’t want someone coming to take them away.)
Could be methane vent caps. If its along the oil corridor through WLA to downtown where the old wells used to be…that would be it. Nice to see them so nicely decorated, anyone have a spare gnome to stick next to them?
Mario will soon consume one and grow in size.
Obviously, they are a dire warning from the Italian Plumbers’ Union.
Those have been there for quite a while now, but I won’t reveal the location either. I’d never hear the end of it from that hookah-smoking caterpillar. “Who … are … you?”
I’m pretty sure I used to live on that block.
My money’s on Frazgo, although the location he speculates upon is not correct. I vaguely recall seeing them in their “OEM” gray some time ago and thinking they look a little like what they look like even more now.
If one goes missing, I for one will welcome our new Mario overlord!
Thx Mike and I almost forgot about Doheny and his huge fields in and around Echo Park on where Glendale Blvd runs through…at its peak LA was the biggest oil producer in the world. A quick link for you since that seems to be derigeur around here : http://www.usc.edu/libraries/archives/la/historic/oil.html
I am constantly tempted to paint that pillar into a green warp pipe.
