No One Told Me Randy’s Had A Twin!

Renowned Randy’s Donuts near LAX seems to get all the attention for its distinctive signage. Little did I know Randy had an identical twin until passing the much more unsung Kindle’s Do-Nuts at Normandie Avenue and Century Boulevard on my way home last night:

And to be honest, the Kindle’s sign seems much less grungy and pigeon-poo frosted than the one above Randy’s.

UPDATE: And according to the Wiki entry for Randy’s, Kindle’s (opened in 1950) is older by two years. Not only that, but apparently there are several other examples of the big donut “sculpture” still in existence in Gardena, Compton and Bellflower.

  1. The one in Gardena (on Redondo Beach Blvd?) is massive. Much bigger than Randy’s.

Long Beach has some as well. And I can prove it:
    PCH & 7th

    Carson & Cherry

And there’s one in Bellflower on Bellflower Blvd that’s actually for a bagel place!

  2. There’s also a big doughnut (leftover from a previous incarnation) above the Daily Grind coffee bar at the the intersection of 7th St., PCH, and Bellflower near Cal State Long Beach

  3. I can’t find a picture online but there also used to be one on the corner of Washington and Sepulveda in (or next to) Culver City, just east of the 405. It probably disappeared in the late ’70s, but I can’t remember exactly.

    Ahem…Chris, read my comment.
