Raymond Chandler I am not …

nano_06_icon_120x240.gifIt’s true that I’m a novelist, but not a good one, by any stretch of the imagination.

October may mean Halloween for most people, but to me it’s National Novel Preparation Month … which is because November is National Novel Writing Month.

NaNoWriMo started in 1999 up in the Bay Area but it’s quickly spread all over the world. We’re expecting 75,000 people to try to write a 50,000 word novel in the month of November this year. Right now there are over 600 Angelenos signed up for this year’s challenge … Last year the Los Angeles participants wrote 6,129,614 words of prose … that’s a lotta words!

Are you signing up this year?

  1. I avoid NaNoWriMo like the plague, but know quite a few friends who have successfully written novels in the past over the course of the month.

  2. I’m kinda-sorta participating. I’m not starting from scratch, but I’m setting a goal of 50k words on my current project. Ideally, it’ll end up being my last 50k words on the first draft. The only problem is that I went from being at 24k words a couple weeks ago to being at 2k words now courtesy of deciding to start a brand new draft.
