Get “Hep” (or get vaccinated against Hep) at Sunset Junction

http://blogging.la/archives/images/2006/08/hepteamla-thumb.jpgHep Team LA will be giving free vaccinations against hepatitis A and hepatitis B at this weekend’s Sunset Junction Street Fair.

While they’re targeting gay men, who are most at risk for the viruses, straight men are also encouraged to get vaccinated; these strains of Hepatitis can be spread simply by kissing or drinking contaminated water. Symptoms are much less fun than the easy vaccination process – “abdominal pain, fever, fatigue, lack of appetite, nausea, jaundice and dark urine”.

  1. Are they really vaccinating against both? When I got my Hep vaccs, at least one of them was a two-parter that was several weeks apart.

Anyway, anyone who’s not vaccinated should be jumping all over this. Especially if you eat out in Los Angeles.

  2. I believe the vaccinations require a multi step process, and I don’t have the specifics. I’m hoping someone with HEP Team LA can pipe in here with some answers…

  3. The vaccinations are for Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B. There are individual vaccinations for each, or you can have a combo vaccine that takes care of everything. For the combo, it is a three shot series, with each shot several weeks apart. HepTeam LA will be at Sunset Junction with the LA County Dept of Public Health offering the vaccines for free (while supplies last). People who get vaccinated will them be able to go to a number of LA County Clinics, including the Hollywood Wilshire Clinic on Melrose for the follow-up doses to complete the series.

Take a look at http://www.hepteamLA.com for more info.

Hope to see you all at Sunset Junction!
