It’s That Time Of the Month Again…

End of the month ticket-writing time! (What were you thinking?)

I should have realized from the plethora of motorcyles that I was entering the Riverside Drive Speed Trap (yes, I plead guilty), but my pre-caffeinated brain didn’t quite register the other people being pulled over. But then, we caught the attention of the kind and courteous Ofc. Morales, who promptly flared the lights of his Ponch-mobile. He apologized for not looking at me too much whilst showing me his radar gun and giving his Mandatory “You Were Speeding” spiel. His attention was squarely focused on not getting Frogger-ed by the oncoming traffic – all of whom were speeding too.

After I told him we were on the way to the airport, he kindly offered to expedite his ticket-writing, and his patter double-timed. He even overlooked my faux-pas when I thanked him for “speeding us on our way.”

Thanks, Ofc. Morales!

Y’know, I always find myself saying thank you to police officers who pull me over to fine me. Is that odd?

  1. I get the impression that most cops would rather be doing anything other than issuing speeding tickets. So, think of the “thank yous” as prepayment for the larger, more dangerous duties they take care of.

  2. I always find myself saying thank you to police officers who pull me over to fine me.

Less preferrable, but probably safer than, saying “Fuck you.”

  3. I always barely avoided the Riverside ticket trap while driving to and from USC (yeah I took riverside). It always creeped me out that they stake out there….
