Parking tickets just got more expensive for some folks

111865563_0acdc828de_m.jpgAnd by “some folks” I mean anyone parked illegally during rush hour and those whose mode of transportation might be referred to as a taco truck or roach coach or maybe even people selling ice cream or dirty water dogs. The rush hour thing is obvious and something that should have been in place a long time ago. One car parked in on a “no parking during XXX hours” street can easily tack on 20 minutes to a drive, so those folks who used to look forward to a $65 ticket, now get a $140 fine the first time, $290 for the second. “Mobile catering businesses” can now face up to $310 for parking illegally (up from $90), which depending on where they are can mean sitting in the same place too long, even if they are feeding the meter. In order to keep these vendors from hogging all the sweet spots, the are required to get the hell out of your neighborhood (or at least a half mile or so) after being there for 30 minutes, or every hour if they are on a commercial street. 1. La Brea from the 10 north to Melrose used to be part of my nightly journey home. Almost as bad as people parked there at the beginning of the nightly rush were the valet drivers who would jump the gun and start parking cars in front of their restaurants as early as 15 minutes before the 7 pm posted.

  2. Speaking of valets and parking (and sorry if this isn’t the right place to ask), is it legal for them to park restaurant cars on residential side streets in LA? Does anyone know? I’d love them to enact a ticket for that.

  3. AN UNJUST COLLECTIONS ATTEMPT:
I want to see who agrees with me. I got a “blue” collections letter early June ’06, and sent in a check on 06/30/06 for the full amount requested of 74$. They cashed my check on July 5th ’06, provided by telephonic and online verification. They sent me a “red” collections letter dated 07/06/06 for a total of 94$ for the same ticket, they added $21.00. I wrote a letter contesting the second attempt and they replied saying it is valid and remains unpaid. I believe they’re trying to steal from me!!! I am contesting it a 2nd time and if they won’t do anything I requested a hearing. IS IT FAIR to try to charge me after they’ve already been paid??????
