826 Benefit Concerts

Holy crap.

I don’t have much info on this yet but it looks like McSweeney’s or some such subsidiary is going to be putting on six concerts to raise money for children’s literacy programs in 826 Writing Centers.

Stereogum has the full list of who is performing where. The NY showcase looks pretty amazing but the LA lineup is downright mindblowing.

Playing the show on 8/26:
-Jenny Lewis (of Rilo Kiley and the Postal Service fame, whom all the kids love)
-Aimee Mann (I got in a big fight with her one time, but you all know who she is and she’s pretty rad, yeah?)
-Dave Eggers (Mr. McSweeney’s himself)
-Mark Kozelek (Red House Painters, Sun Kil Moon, he was in Steve Martin’s Shopgirl, oh and he’s a brilliant singer/songwriter)

As if that wasn’t enough two of the best songwriters writing today will be there, both John Roderick of the Long Winters and John Darnielle of the Mountain Goats.

Two of the most powerful performances I’ve ever seen ever where separate solo performances by these guys. This will be an insanely amazing show. I’ll post more info when I can track it down.

Oh wait, before you go, did I mention that the host of the evening will be none other than Andy Richter!? They’re blowing my mind. Seriously.
