Green Drinks Meet Tonight in Culver City

One of my fellow Critical Massers sent an email about this event to the Westside cyclists last night. It seems to be a regular gathering of green-minded people who meet over drinks twice a month, once in Silverlake and once in Culver City. This seems like a great way to get involved in a green groups on a more casual, social basis.

For me, everything’s tied together: environmentalism, sustainability, social responsibility, politics. Most of my focus is on sustainability, because I believe that there are only so many resources available to us, as a population on an isolated planet, and that the current mismanagement of what we have been given out due to bad political and economic policies is a massive mistake. This is something that really hit home when I came to L.A., because this is a city that, in my eyes, has made many, many decisions which are bad for the environment and bad for the people and animals who live here. Up to, and including, the South Central Farm, which I raged about as a sustainability example, as an environmental project, as much as I did a social situation.

Anyways. I just got totally sidetracked there. Details after the cut for those who are interested. The gathering is this evening in downtown Culver City.

LA Green Drinks – Culver City this Thursday
LA Green Drinkers,

Hope you all had a great independence day!
Come discuss ways we can become energy independent at this weeks Green Drinks!

LA Green Drinks – Silverlake (for the east siders) had a great inaugural turnout in its new location at the Edendale Grill. Over 20 folks came into the reserved back patio space from all over the East side. Great work by Nancy Whalen and Elizabeth Zampolli for organizing the new Green Drinks.

2 summer movies this time –

1. “Who Killed the Electric Car?”
chronicles the life and mysterious death of the GM EV1, examining its cultural and economic ripple effects and how they reverberated through the halls of government and big business.

2. “An Inconvenient Truth ”
Don’t miss the best synopsis of man made Global Warming to date-
and bring a skeptic.

Looking forward to seeing everyone again tomorrow night-

If anyone wants to bring literature to promote their green issue
please do so-
we will have an area for brochures, business cards, etc.
We will also take back any extra literature back and bring them to the next Green Drinks.
The main thing is just to relax and have a good time.
