Six Flags Magic Mountain being sold or closing?

As pointed to on Theme Park Insider (via Digg), Six Flags announced late Thursday that it is “exploring strategic options” regarding six prime properties, including Six Flags Magic Mountain and Hurricane Harbor:

Although the Company cannot predict when, or if, any specific transaction will occur with respect to these properties, potential options include a sale of the parks as going concerns in a single transaction or a series of transactions, dismantling and re-utilizing certain rides and attractions and selling the underlying land for real estate development purposes, as well as other potential alternatives.

Now wouldn’t that be a revoltin’ development?

  1. I am one of those people who absolutely loves going on roller coasters. I have been to Magic Mountain twice…once a year in the last two years. And honestly, it’s the most fun I have ever had. A year ago, I went to Disneyland and I was extremely bored and I ended up leaving 3 hours before I had planned. On the other hand, both times I have been to Six Flags, I didn’t want to leave after being there for 12 hours. And I had such a good time that I didn’t even notice the park being dirty or anything. It’s just such a fun place and you can’t compare it to Disneyland. They’re just two very different places. And Six Flags is the only place for thrill seekers to go in SoCal. And they just opened a new ride, Tatsu, which is unique to it’s terrain. They can’t put that ride anywhere else b/c it’s built over hills and stuff.

So now about the whole gang issue… Maybe I’m just oblivious to the whole thing, but I had a really good time and didn’t notice any gangs or shady things going on. But if there is a gang problem, I think they should just boost up the security at the park. Put cops in the park. Kick people out and never let them back in if they do something out of hand.

Does anyone know about any petitions or anything going on to keep the park open? I would be devastated if it were to close b/c I look forward to going there every year.
