This has got to be one of the more disgusting promotions I’ve seen from an auto maker. Instead of making their vehicles more fuel efficient, which is good protection against spikes in prices, they’re just givin’ ya the difference.
GM is offering gasoline price protection for its most gas-guzzling vehicles in Florida and California. Buy one of their cars or trucks and you’ll never pay more than $1.99 a gallon until the end of 2007. Yes, you get the deal if you buy a Hummer … but oddly enough, not a Saturn ION.
What does that mean? It means if you buy an H2 and drive 12,000 miles a year … they’ll give you $1,800. Check out their calculator. Also, in order to qualify for the program, they’ll monitor your miles via the OnStar system. At least now they’ll find out what sort of mileage these vehicles get in real life … I’m telling you, it’s not even gonna be what it shows on the sticker.
