Silver Lake Eatery Closed After Fire Saturday

mnc2sm.jpgDriving by it Saturday afternoon I found the popular Mornings/Nights Cafe situated on Griffith Park Boulevard across from Sunset Boulevard’s Triangle Park fully involved with L.A. City firefighters on-scene as smoke poured from its front doors and roof.

I snapped this shot two mornings after the fire through its barred yet open front doors. Looks like the eatery is literal and figurative toast, but it appears that fast action by Fire Department personnel prevented adjacent businesses and residences from sustaining damage. Attempts to reach its owners by phone this morning for comment or word as to any plans to reopen were met with a the phone company’s “I’m sorry but the number you’ve tried to reach is either disconnected or no longer in service…” recording.

It is unknown at this time if the cause of the fire has been determined, if it is under investigation or what the damage is estimate at.

  1. Will:

The initial 9-1-1 call came in to the LAFD Dispatch Center at 6:21:43 PM on Saturday evening. The first of thirty-five Los Angeles Firefighters LAFD’s 5th and 11th Battalions traveled less than 0.9 miles to arrive on scene in *less than* three minutes. In what I would describe as a tenacious and well-coordinated fire attack, the flames were extinguished at 6:50:15 PM (less than nine minutes) after the receipt of the first 9-1-1 call. There were no injuries. Loss from the fire was estimated at $140,000 ($60,000 structure & $80,000 contents). The cause of the fire is categorized as electrical.

FYI… this fire, one of more than a dozen that day, was not posted to the LAFD News & Information blog because it did not escalate to a “Greater Alarm” status.

    I hope this information helps.

Respectfully Yours in Safety and Service,

    Brian Humphrey
    Public Service Officer
