If the first Friday of the month is coming up it must be time for another RIDE-Arc group bike ride and if that first Friday happens to be in May then that also means it’s Cinco de Mayo. So what better way to celebrate the anniversary of the oft-misrepresented but no less culturally historic 1862 victory of Mexican soldiers over the French then by
downing your fair share of a Cinco de Cuervo getting on your bike after dark and riding around exploring landmarks and locales that showcase the schizo history (schiztory?) that the greater El Pueblo de Los Angeles has made embracing/rejecting its rich and varied ethnic diversity.
Friday night’s ride, dubbed “We Built This City On Heart And Soul,” is roughly 16 miles (reportedly with some manageable uphills) and will finish where it starts at the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc) parking lot south and east of downtown between the Arts District and the L.A. River (map). The pace is chilled and relaxed and no one gets left behind. Gather at 9 p.m. Ride at 9:30. Weather is expected to be comfortable and cool. More info at ridearc @ gmail dot com.
