Follow-Up: Service Scheduled For El Circo Loco

Apologies for taking up yet more blog space with this topic, but I wanted to spread the word I just heard from El Circo Loco’s godson who graciously responded to the message I left with the mortuary handling his godfather’s remains. He told me that Antonio’s family has reversed their decision not to have a memorial and a service is now scheduled from noon to 3 p.m. tomorrow at the Castaneda-Crollet Mortuary (3715 E. Cesar E. Chavez Avenue; map). A mortuary spokesperson said the rosary will be read at 2 p.m. His body will then be transported to Mexico to be buried in his hometown next to his mother who died in 2004.

If you’re interested in paying your respects but are unable to make the mortuary trip, a small shrine of remembrance has been erected on the sidewalk of Golden Gate just south of Sunset where Ruiz passed away:

Shrine To El Circo Loco

  1. Thanks for getting behind this Will. I suspect his family didn’t know about the genuine affection held for him. I’m hoping this will bring some comfort to them during a sad time.

  2. Thank you for finding and sharing all of this information about our beloved neighbor. Sadly, I am unable to make the service, but I will most definitely pay a visit to his shrine.

  3. THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH FOR EVERYTHING THAT WAS AND HAS BEEN DONE FOR MY GODFATHER ANTONIO “EL CIRCO LOCO” RUIZ.
