Jesca Hoop At Temple Bar…

Besides Hello Stranger (fka Vagenius, MySpace) and The Ditty Bops (MySpace), another up-and-coming local artist I’ve been supporting regularly is Jesca Hoop (MySpace).

A friend of mine described her as his favorite “…local sorceress poet musician,” and I haven’t been able to come up with anything better. Her song “Seed of Wonder” was one of the top five most requested songs on Morning Becomes Eclectic.

Last Friday night, she threw a special birthday show at the Temple Bar in Santa Monica, and it was certainly a bittersweet performance since she told the audience that she was taking a break from performing… so this would be her last show for the forseeable future because she’s currently in the recording studio working on her debut album.

The setlist:

  1. “While You Were Away”
  2. “Seed of Wonder”
  3. “Paradise”
  4. “Out the Backdoor”
  5. “Make Me Dance”
  6. “Enemy”
  7. “Hero”
  8. “Silverscreen”
  9. “Havoc in Heaven”
  10. “Ballerina Song”
  11. “Summertime”

More photos here, and more of Ross‘ awesome photos from the show (as well as The Like‘s show at The El Rey Theatre last October) here.

  1. Hmmmm, now I know what Koga looks like. Nice camera by the way. How do you like that Nikon? (You were scaring me with those lens being left on the stage). That was a great show though. I’m very bummed about her not not performing.

  2. I love my Nikon, but a shutterbug friend of mine has been using a Canon 5D and I’ve been amazed at his results.

And actually, a friend of mine was nice enough to watch my gear while I rushed across the room to scarf down my dinner before rushing back just before she started performing.

If you haven’t done so already, you should check the recordings of her past shows on as well as the video of her performance on Nic Harcourt’s show. That should help you get your Jesca fix until her next live show.
