Dear All,

This Friday morning the Board of Public Works will consider the EIR on the
police headquarters. The 5-member board will take public comment before
deciding whether or not to recommend that the City Council accept the
report–including its negative impacts.

We encourage all to attend as numbers make the biggest difference. Anyone
who would like to learn more about the City’s plan to abolish plans for a
public park in favor of a new police headquarters can go to:
www.lacivicpark.org

This plan includes demolishing the 1896 iron frame and brick building that
is the birthplace of Gallery Row and now is the M.J. HIGGINS gallery. Please
forward this email to anyone and everyone you think can possibly attend.

We encourage and appreciate your support.

Thank you very much,

Martha Higgins

  1. the desperately needed park that is one half block away from the coming civic park in front of city hall?

    Desperately needed by whom?

If the Higgins Building (not to be confused with the MJ Higgins gallery, in a different building) people have a complaint it is with the owner of their building who told them the park was a sure thing when the plan it is part of never had any authority at all, it was a recommendation, unadopted. very common occurance in city government, makes for good copy around election time and doesn’t cost very much.

The gallery’s building is a separate issue. Trying to work them together will anger potential advocates who will figure out that one is an issue of a small number of people (the ‘park’) and the other (the parking) affects all downtown.

    Shame on them.
