14 Injured After Car Crashes Into South LA Health Clinic

http://blogging.la/archives/images/2006/02/newcrashinsurance-thumb.jpgFrom ABC News:

“A car crashed through the front doors of a health clinic Friday, injuring 13 people, six of them critically, fire officials said… The driver appeared to have been under the influence of alcohol or narcotics and was taken into custody… Authorities said two people had been driving erratically on a nearby street, trying to pass each other, when one of the cars hurtled into the corner entrance of the clinic in South Los Angeles shortly before 10 a.m.”

As tragic as this is, I couldn’t help but notice two unusual things about the LA Times coverage of this story. For one, their article reads more like a blog entry as they show no evidence of actual reporting, as the unidentified “reporter” cites their source was an ABC 7 telecast. Secondly, the ad that accompanied the article (pictured) for car insurance seems a bit inappropriate (or too appropriate. You decide).

  1. Wow, that’s weird. Could blogs be to news what reality shows are to written show? Just like how papers/publications are accepting amateur photos from people w/their cell phone cameras and whatnot. Why pay for reporters when you got your viral reporting network all over the world? Of course, you have to throw trivial things like journalistic credentials or simple proofreading out the window, but who cares?
