Remember The Titan

titan.jpgThis entry is pretty much just an excuse to use the headline, but it does concern something notable: the end of an era in American and west coast rocketry.

While not at all as eye-cathing and traffic-stopping as the skyshow that came with last month’s nightime Minotaur launch, the 200th and final Titan rocket fired from Vandenberg Air Force Base climbed off its launchpad this morning at 11:05, capping a half-century history of hauling heavy stuff into space, including top-secret satellites and probes like Viking, Voyager and Cassini.
