one down, one to go

According to the BBC, those crazy kids down at Machado Lake finally brought in Reggie the Renegade Alligator. Witness this breathless account:

On Tuesday, after a number of unsuccessful attempts to catch Reggie, a team led by Jay Young and a crew of handlers from Colorado finally succeeded in their quest.

“He put up a good fight,” Mr Young said. “We’re so excited right now.”

Mr Young said that the breakthrough came when he spotted the alligator resting on the shores of Machado Lake, in the south of the city.

His brother, Noah Young, crept up on the animal and managed to slip a rope around his neck.

Reggie will be moved to the Los Angeles Zoo, where he is expected to taunt the other alligators for being “pussies.”

  1. Looks like a Jay Young impersonator might have either fooled everyone – AP’s got the story at http://www.dailybreeze.com/news/articles/1845337.html:

The story was cast into doubt when the promised delivery of the alligator to the Los Angeles Zoo never happened.

“To the best of my knowledge and all the reports I have received this morning, it was a hoax,” said Ron Berkowitz, the Los Angeles Recreation and Parks superintendent, who supervises the area that includes the lake. “I called the zoo to verify and the gator is not there. I called the rangers, the city council office and my staff at the lake. There was no capture.”

Reached by phone at his Colorado gator farm later today, Young said he has not been in Los Angeles recently and that he hadn’t called the media earlier in the day. He said the caller apparently was someone impersonating him.

    Damn the man!
