The Triathletes Are Coming! The Triathletes Are Coming!

lat.jpgApproaching the bus stop at Sunset and Parkman in Silver Lake for my weekly One Less Car alt-commute yesterday morning I spied a large MTA notice taped to the bus signage indicating some detours and street closures scheduled for Sunday, September 11 during the 6th Annual Los Angeles Triathlon.

The race begins at Venice Beach at 6:35 a.m. with the ocean swim, then the cycling stage proceeds from the beach up Venice Boulevard through the Fairfax District, Museum Row, Hancock Park, Hollywood and Koreatown. The running course travels through downtown ending at Staples Center. About 25 miles of L.A.’s streets will be closed during the event but all are purportedly expected to be reopened by noon.

  1. Yee! their site isn’t really that friendly for folks that just want to walk down to the end of their street and watch the triatheletes go by.

I looked around, downloaded a bunch of PDFs to try to figure out when to expect the cyclists to come through Silverlake. PDFs are great if you want to print out stuff and take it with you, but the home page of the site should have a freakin’ schedule on it.

Maybe little spots along the course map where they can say when they expect folks to start coming by there.
