Get Sam the Eagle’s agent on the phone

_39279045_la_mascot.jpg Well, it’s no X Games, but Los Angeles is reportedly going to be bidding for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games, which would be its third time (1932 and 1984 the others). Supposedly it won’t cost us anything. Somehow I find that hard to believe, but never mind. :)

‘Other cities considering 2016 bids are Chicago, Rome and Tokyo. The Summer Games will be held in Beijing in 2008 and London in 2012.’ Since only one city per country is allowed to bid, the U.S. Olympic Committee will have to decide, and that doesn’t have to be until 2007. Stay tuned.

  1. I grew up in Los Angeles and loved the 1984 Los Angeles Games, but I will volunteer to help the Chicago Metropolitan Organizing Committee (CMOC) to bid for the 2016 Olympic Games. Although I think Los Angeles can and should host another Olympic Games in the future, the reality is 1984 was not THAT long ago. Chicago ( would be the ideal candidate for the USOC to submit on a worldwide stage.

  2. awww, sam the eagle! thanks for the fond childhood memories via the image.

as far as who should host what olympics, i think LA is a far better site than SF or NY for exactly the reasons most people slam LA: we’re spread out, have no center, etc. much easier to situate things.

what’s always bothered me, however, is how the same cities really do just get to repeat host. did you know there’s never been an olympics in South America? granted, the political realities of many would-be hosts precludes their considertion, but still . . . .
