So last week I had cocktails at an event in Hollywood hosted by the New York Television Festival. What’s that you might ask (as I did!). The NYTVF has a vision is to pioneer the movement of “Independent Television” . They want to create a new path for TV program development.
Uh-oh, I thought, don’t tell that to the networks! This is their first year operating and they encourage directors, and producers and writers to submit independently made pilots for competition in their festival. Winners will get a pitch meeting with different networks for their project. The hope is that what Sundance did for film, the NYTVF will do for television. The NYTVF is presented in association with TV Guide, partnered with the William Morris Agency and the City of New York. If you’re interested check it out: www.newyorktelevisionfestival.com, they’re taking submissions now.
