Freeway Warning: Kids dropping crap on your heads

It’s not another shooting, but kids dropping rocks and things on cars from freeway over passes can be just as sketchy. And, lucky for us, now we get to worry about that too! Yippy!

LOS ANGELES (CBS) Two boys standing on an overpass may have launched some sort of object at the front window of a car on the Hollywood (101) Freeway, authorities said.

“It was definitely not a shooting,” said California Highway Patrol Sgt. Troy Lukkes. “It was an unknown object — perhaps a rock in a slingshot, perhaps a bb pellet,” he said.

Whatever was launched came from the Benton Way overpass over the southbound Hollywood (101) Freeway about 5 p.m., Lukkes said.

  1. You know, At around 11.45pm I was on the 101 southbound just before that overpass when all traffic pretty much stopped. There wasn’t an accident or anything that would’ve indicated why traffic just suddenly stopped. My exit is Benton Way, but when I got off there wasn’t anyone on sight.

  2. Being a motorcycle rider around the L.A. area, this sort of thing scares the bejeesus out of me. I’m constantly looking at kids standing on overpasses just watching traffic, wondering if they’re going to drop something toward my head. Glad to see that just because I’m paranoid doesn’t mean they aren’t really out to get me.

  3. My car was pelted with two rocks on the 10 FWY @ Crenshaw a few days ago… they weren’t boulders so the one that hit my hood didn’t do much and the one that hit my windshield didnt even crack it. My car is a big enough piece of shit that it didn’t even bother me.

A few years ago one of my good friends from home (new mexico) – his brother and a bunch of friends were arrested for dropping rocks off the freeway offramp onto cars. They got a bit overzealous and dropped a few softball sized rocks through cars’ windshields…. They were all the ‘good kids’ and had the right parents, so they got off relatively scott-free. meh
