Star Wars Line Giving Away Lap Tops?

Dude. We got scooped. This is from LABlogs.com:

“Is it true? Could it be? Is LABlogs.com scooping blogging.la with some Star Wars line fodder? According to this livejournal entry:

Sony in cooperation with LiningUp.NET is giving away 30 VAIO laptops at 8pm on 5/8/2005 in front of Grauman’s Chinese Theater at 6925 Hollywood Blvd. We are trying to raise $30,000 for a charity to get Grauman’s Chinese to play Star Wars Episode III. To do so we have been able to get sponsorships from Sony and Netflix. ABC news will give us a spot tonight if we can get a large crowd at the line in front of Grauman’s, and Sony donated 30 laptops that will be raffled off at 8pm to help us get the spot.

No confirmation on the LiningUp.net site.”

This post is kind of confusing because, as the comments on that LJ post suggest, this part makes no sense – “We are trying to raise $30,000 for a charity to get Grauman’s Chinese to play Star Wars Episode III.” Huh? Does the Charity have a say in what plays at the Chinese? Did the Chinese say they would show it if XXX was raised for the Charity? WTF?

  1. Huh? No one at the line knows anything about it, nor did anyone show up at 8:00 last night to get a laptop anyway. Weird.

  2. I think the Star Wars geeks probably stole all the laptops and they are now covering it up.

  3. yeah, i felt it was kind of unfair posting it 4 hours before the drawing. meh. i wouldve liked to have tried to get free laptop if ive known about it.

  4. The post was a fake. (Subsequently removed from the site.) This was an erroneous announcement from an outside source not associated with LiningUp.Net, Starlight Starbright or Grauman’s Chinese Theatre.
