Oliver Arms reviews

If you weren’t convinced to go see the Oliver Arms solo exhibition by my brief pimping the weekend of the artist’s reception, take a gander at these two reviews:

Mat Gleason of Coagula says:

Today I saw a show of paintings by Oliver Arms at Western Projects in Culver City and it made my day.

…Without exaggerating it, the guy is a contemporary DeKooningesque force to be reckoned with.

In fact, if you don’t go see the show, it is like you are BEHIND the times in what is on the scene.

And this is L.A., you don’t want to be behind.

And David Pagel of the L.A. Times says (I’d link it, but it’s paid content, so you’ll have to read the print version):

An odd, Rip Van Winkle quality animates Arms’ art. Out of step with current fashions, his naked paintings travel to the past in ways that may be ahead of their time.

Now you’ve got to see it. You don’t want to be behind, do you?
