meridi.jpg Construction workers over in Moorpark dug up the fossilized remains of a really, really old mammoth last week. It is “between 400,000 and 1.4 million years old,” placing it as an ancestor of those found in La Brea, which are in the 30,000-year-old range — or about 29,972 years before the first Star Wars movie came out. ;) More in this Reuters story. One of the paleontologists brought in commented: “We have found about three quarters of the animal, which is very unusual. The tusks are between 8 and 9 feet long.”
