No Banana-Espresso Smoothies?!

banana-bunch_d.gifI’ve blogged before about the Banana Espresso smoothies at Silver Lake Coffee before and how much they rule the planet. I even had one this afternoon. But when I went back to there again this evening with Jay they were out of bananas. No bananas means no banana espresso smoothies. CRAP! What’s a guy to do in a situation like that? Well here’s a short list of things that should you find yourself in the same banana shortage we did this evening that you can order instead and still be psyched on the coffee house goodness.

– Soy Chai Latte. This is Caryn’s current obsession and the people behind the counter there agree that the soy version is way better than the regular milk version. That’s what I opted for this evening and I wasn’t disappointed.

– Vanilla Soy Latte. This is my usual, and I go for the soy because of the whole vegan thing but I go there with people who don’t take the soy road and they are blown away as well. They just have some damn good coffee there.

– Ice Blended Vanilla Espresso. This is the choice on a hot day when the bananas are no where to be found. It’s what you think, vanilla, ice, and a couple of shots all blended together into a frozen dream drink. I don’t order this enough really.

To be honest, I’ve never had something bad there, and have never gone with someone who didn’t like whatever they ordered so I’m pretty sure you are safe with any of the options. Some dude in front of me today ordered an Oreo Smoothie which sounded damn good. I wonder if I can bring them in vegan oreos and get them to whip that one up special?

  1. I’ve got nothing bad to say about the products offered at the Silverlake Coffee Co, but I have not been back in a year because the kids who work behind the counter like to crank up the music, leave the store and sit in the parking lot and smoke – with the doors open so it just wafts through the place. I used to go there A LOT, but just can’t bring myself to give them another try after my last three experiences.

    Tell me it’s better now.

  2. I can’t tell you it’s better because honestly I never really stay there too long. I get my stuff and taker off, however they do have free wi-fi so when I have stayed there or met someone there for a meeting or whatever I’ve never had that problem. I know there’s one guy who I’ve seen ( i think he’s the owner) who sits out back and smokes but the door is usually closed and there’s several new people working there who I don’t think smoke. But better yet, they are friendly and recognize you quickly so you can order “the usual” fromthe back of the line and by the time you get to the counter it’s done and ready for you.

  3. I still love the espresso-banana smoothies at this place, but that’s the only reason I go there (infrequently) anymore. I think it changed ownership about a year ago, and since then it’s gone downhill. The wireless and computer servies are inconsistent, the food isn’t as good as it used to be, and the staff is inconsistent. Save your money.
