Clap On, Clap Off

Did anyone else lose power last night?

The lights went out in Maybery Heights (the hill northwest of the intersection of Silverlake Blvd. & Sunset) last night around 11:30 and didn’t come back until 3:00 or so.

I’m not really complaining but I’m curious. It seems like we lose power a lot. Pretty much whenever it rains. And it just seems to be our hill. I’ve called the DWP before, and they’re never able to tell me exactly what caused it, so I’ve kind of just started to accept it. I’ve lived places with really bad weather before, ice storms and tornados and floods and the power didn’t seem to be regularly interrupted there.

UPDATE (10/21/2004): Now the power seems to be out in Hollywood (I’m on the Paramount lot).

  1. Sorry guys, it was me down here south of Sunset and east of Silver Lake Blvd. I was testing out the load ratios on a new flux capacitor and decided to push the heat limits on the core’s alloy amalgam. Let me just say that’s the last time I crank her to 11!

  2. let me chime in and let you know that maltman avenue loses power (and cable t.v.!) whenever it drizzles, there is wind, or if someone looks at it funny.

  3. We lost power in WeHo (on Laurel between Sunset & Fountain) at about 1:05 AM last night. It was still off when I went to bed 1/2 hour later.

  4. I’m on the Mayberry hill as well. I always imagine its some poor sot smashing his car into a power pole on Silver Lake or Sunset Blvds. It happens relatively often.
