Jim Jarmusch’s Coffee and Cigarettes : let me just say that the vignette with RZA, GZA, and Bill Murray is worth anything you must endure to see.

Troy : Half the ass of Brad Pitt is pretty good, Orlando Bloom getting smacked around is pretty good, and dialogue like “Victory is yours! Take it!” is pretty good… oh wait, this isn’t 1964. So the cheesiness surpassed the Tolerable Limits of Cheese that an epic is allotted and that made those of us at the advanced screening laugh every 10 minutes until we began to wonder if this was really supposed to be a comedy. However, I just have to love any movie that begins with a woman wailing a dirge over the starting credits.

Soon to come – Saved! : I am so excited about this movie about Christian school! Why? Because in the trailer, one of the Christian school boys is wearing a t-shirt with “JESUS” written like the AC/DC logo. AWESOME. I’m trying to find a good picture of it to post, so if anyone finds one, please share the wealth!

  1. Everyone keeps talking about the pretty boys of Troy. Screw that! I’m going to see the older guys. Brian Cox. Brendan Gleeson. Nigel Terry (King Arthur!) Peter Fricking O’Toole. We’re talking heavyweights here (and a pretty amazing cast for a UK production of Glengarry Glen Ross.)

And even though he’s still a relative young’un, all your base are belong to Sean Bean.

Any day there a new Jarmusch is a good day. And I like his short form work a whole lot more than his longer films. I’ll be seeing that on tonight. Now if only he’d shot a vignette with Joe Strummer.

  2. Hmmm, I knew it was going to be bad from the trailers but I wonder if it’s “Van Helsing” bad or “Underworld” bad. Difference being VH was pretty damn funny but Underworld just pissed me off. Fuck it. I’ll just go see Tron at El Capitan.

  3. I have to agree on the RZA/GZA/Bill Murray note. It might be the best 10 minutes of film I’ve seen in the last 5 years. The rest were hit and miss, but that one is worth the whole film.

    >Fuck it. I’ll just go see Tron at El Capitan.

Hallelujah! I just realized it closes Sunday. Damn!

  4. I’m glad you thought Troy was funny. I thought I was the only one who laughed inappropriately at those type of movies. I laughed my head off during The Patriot while other people were in tears. Cheesiness taken seriously is hilarious.
